before i do so, please i'd like you to listen to what michigan governor rick snyder had the temerity to say on "morning joe." listen to this. oh. we appear to not have that. we seemed to suggest this morning that for some reason this was good for workers. how is right to work -- >> nothing could be further from the truth. basically what he has done is blind sided a lot of folks up there in michigan. and it's not good for workers in that workers will be able to benefit, they don't have to join a union. but now they'll be getting representation for better benefits and better wages. and not presenting any kind of dues to pay for that representation. and that's a deliberate effort, martin, to destroy unions. we see it here in the congress. i've seen it in my own committee. there has been a march by our republican colleagues to do everything in their power to destroy and weaken unions. and this is just another effort in that road. and i think people have to see this for what it is. you know, keep in mind that governor snyder said he was not going to get involved in this because he thought

snyder has changed his position. he now supports right to work. what are you chances of stopping it? >> well, i don't think our chances of stopping it legislatively are particularly good. you know, it's a remarkable thing where we have a governor who campaigned as a moderate who has said for over two years that this issue is too divisive for michigan. now he's its biggest fan. either he was lying when he called it too divisive or he is by his own admission an extremist who's pushing an agenda that's too divisive and too extreme for our state. >> right now as i understand it the entire michigan federal delegation, house and senate, those folks are meeting with governor snyder. could that change anything? >> well, i have heard that they're meeting with him. we'll have to see what comes of that discussion. >> let me play devil's advocate here and just talk about the specifics of this. supporters say that this is going to help the state attract and keep businesses. they often point to auto suppliers, for example. are the

republican governor rick snyder had in the past said right to work was a divisive issue but plans on signing the legislation into law making michigan the 24th right to work state. we've got guests on both side of this fight tonight. bob king is president of the united autoworkers. scott hagerstrom is michigan state director for americans for prosperity. let me show you what the governor said earlier today when he was a guest on "andrea mitchell reports." >> the way i viewed it, it's on the table, it's a hot issue. let's show some leadership, so i stepped up to say when i review it, i think it's a good thing. it's about being pro-worker, giving freedom of choice to workers. secondly it's about economy development. we will get more and better jobs coming to michigan because we're going to be more competitive. it's important to make a distinction with wisconsin and ohio. that was about collective bargaining. that was about the relationship between employers and unions. this has nothing to do with that. right to work is about the relationship between the union and workers, and this is ab

the state's republican governor, rick snyder, says he'll sign the right to work bill into law. even though he opposed this kind of anti-union push earlier this year. >> right to work is an issue that's a very devicive issue. people feel very strongly about it. so right to work is an issue that might have its time and place but i don't believe it's appropriate in michigan during 2012. >> how do you go from devicive and not appropriate to sure, i'll sign. just give me a pen? snyder has simply misled voters in michigan. this weekend, the detroit free press, a paper that endorsed snyder two years ago, read an editorial blasting his vote. calling him dishonest and grotesquely disingenuous. what's going on here? who's behind all of this? turns out it's some familiar faces. the coke brothers are up to their old tricks. these billionaires are helping to fuel the anti-union drive in michigan. the same way they did in wisconsin for governor scott walker. their goal now is the same as it was then. cripple unions in order to pad their corporate profits and take down a key source of support
